SCAN Health Plan Will Expand Growing National Footprint into Texas
SCAN Health Plan plans to offer health plans in Texas starting in 2023. SCAN Health Plan is also planning a further expansion in Nevada. Pending regulatory approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the expansions would bring SCAN’s total reach to nearly seven million potential customers across 20 markets in four states.

Alignment Healthcare Losses Narrow As Medicare Advantage Enrollment Rises
Alignment Healthcare reported an $11.5 million loss in its second quarter as the startup provider of privatized Medicare Advantage coverage continues to grow. Alignment’s loss of $11.58 million, or 6 cents a share, compared to $44.7 million, or 25 cents in the year-ago period. Meanwhile, total revenue was up nearly 19% to $366.5 million in the second quarter ended June 30 compared to $308.9 million a year ago as the company continues to grow in the competitive business of providing health benefits to U.S. seniors.

Largest Medicare Advantage Plans Pay Big Markups for Dialysis
Large dialysis chains charge Medicare Advantage plans 27% more for dialysis services compared with what they charge the traditional, fee-for-service Medicare program, according to a new USC analysis. “The dialysis industry is heavily consolidated and two large national chains are the dominant provider in most communities,” said Eugene Lin, a clinical fellow at the USC Schaeffer Center and an assistant professor of nephrology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

HCSC to Expand Medicare Offerings to 1.1M More Seniors in 150+ New Counties
Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) plans its largest-ever service area and product expansion in 2023, increasing health care coverage options for as many as 1.1 million additional Medicare-eligible individuals in more than 150 new counties across Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The proposed expansion, which focuses on providing access to care in rural and underserved areas, allows the company to offer Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plans to 7.5 million people in more than 330 total counties across the states it serves – a more than 40% increase from 2022's record buildout.

CMS Seeks Public Feedback to Improve Medicare Advantage
Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a Request for Information seeking public comment on the Medicare Advantage program. CMS is asking for input on ways to achieve the agency’s vision so that all parts of Medicare are working towards a future where people with Medicare receive more equitable, high quality, and person-centered care that is affordable and sustainable.
